Privacy Policy
Updated
Effective date:
This policy explains what information SoccerSubstitution.com ("we", "us") handles when you use the site, and the choices you have. The short version: your team data stays on your device, we have no accounts and no analytics, and the only information that reaches us is the standard information any website receives when your browser asks for a page.
On this page
Summary
- There are no accounts, sign-ups or contact forms.
- Rosters, plans and saved teams are stored only in your browser, on your device. We never receive them.
- Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs.
- Our own pages set no cookies and use no analytics.
- Pages show ads from the Adsterra network. Adsterra may use cookies; this policy explains what it receives and your choices.
- The site is meant for adults (coaches, parents and league volunteers). We don't collect children's data.
Who we are
SoccerSubstitution.com is an independent website run by the SoccerSubstitution.com team. For any privacy question or request, email contact [at] soccersubstitution.com.
Data stored on your device
Our tools save your work in your browser's local storage, on your own device. This includes the planner's current settings and roster, saved teams, season minutes, a running Game Day timer, and your color theme. These entries use keys that start with ss:v1:.
- This data is not sent to our server or to anyone else. The planner does its calculations in your browser.
- Anyone who uses the same browser on your device can see it, so avoid saving teams on a shared computer.
- You can delete a saved team from the planner's team list, or delete everything by clearing this site's data in your browser settings. Clearing site data also deletes your saved teams, so use Export backup first if you want to keep them.
- Backup files, CSV exports, printouts and saved lineup images are created on your device and go only where you save or send them.
We suggest using first names or initials for players. The tools work just as well.
Offline cache (service worker)
The site uses a service worker, a small script that saves copies of our pages, styles and scripts in your browser so the tools work offline at the field. The cache contains our own site files, not your team data. Your browser lets you clear it with the rest of the site's data.
Share links
When you share a plan, the plan's details (including the player names you entered) are packed into the link itself, after the "#" sign. Browsers don't send that part of a link to websites, so the plan doesn't reach our server when someone opens it. But anyone who has the link can see the plan, and the app or service you use to send it (text, email, chat) will store the link like any other message. The planner's First names only option, which is on by default, leaves last names out of shared links.
Server logs
Like almost every website, our hosting provider automatically records basic information when your browser requests a page or file. This usually includes:
- your IP address,
- the date and time of the request,
- the page or file requested (never the part of a link after "#"),
- the referring page, if your browser sends one, and
- your browser and operating system type (the "user agent").
These logs are used to keep the site running, secure and free of abuse, and to fix errors. We don't use them to build profiles of visitors or combine them with other data. They are kept for a limited time under our hosting provider's standard retention settings.
Cookies and analytics
Our own pages set no cookies and use no analytics or tracking tools; the ad network's cookies are covered in the next section. We use Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools to see how the site appears in search results; these give us search data in aggregate and don't add tracking code to our pages. If we ever add analytics, we'll update this policy first and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent before it runs.
Advertising (Adsterra)
To keep the tools free, our guide and tool pages show native ads served by Adsterra, a third-party advertising network. The ads load from Adsterra's servers after the page itself has loaded.
- What Adsterra receives. When an ad loads, your browser contacts Adsterra directly, so Adsterra and its advertising partners receive standard technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, and the page you are viewing.
- Cookies. Adsterra and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to show ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure ads and prevent fraud. Our own pages set no cookies.
- Placement. Ads never appear inside the tools, in Game Day mode, on printouts or in the embeddable calculator, and our tools never pass your team data to Adsterra or any other ad partner.
- Ad content. Ads are chosen by Adsterra, not by us. An ad on this site is not an endorsement.
To learn more, read the Adsterra privacy policy.
How to limit ad tracking
- Opt out of personalized ads from many vendors at aboutads.info (US) or youronlinechoices.eu (Europe).
- Block or delete third-party cookies in your browser settings. Ads may still appear, but they won't be personalized.
- Email us at contact [at] soccersubstitution.com with any privacy request about ads on this site.
Children's privacy
SoccerSubstitution.com is for adults: coaches, parents and league volunteers. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children, including children under 13.
Coaches often type players' names into the planner. Those names stay in the coach's own browser and are never sent to us. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, for example by email, contact us at contact [at] soccersubstitution.com and we will delete it.
How we share information
We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it except:
- with our hosting provider, which processes server logs to run the site,
- with Adsterra, which serves the ads, as described above, and
- when the law requires it, or to protect the site and its users from fraud or abuse.
Your rights
Because team data never leaves your device, you control it directly and can delete it at any time. The only personal information we might hold is in server logs and in emails you send us.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- ask what personal information we hold about you and get a copy,
- ask us to correct or delete it,
- object to or restrict how we use it,
- opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and of targeted advertising, and
- withdraw consent you have given, for example for personalized ads.
To make a request, email contact [at] soccersubstitution.com. We won't treat you differently for using these rights. If you are in the EEA or UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Where EU or UK law applies, we rely on our legitimate interests to keep server logs (security and running the site) and to reply to your emails, and on your consent for personalized advertising.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Data saved by our tools is protected by your own device and browser, so keep your device locked and your browser up to date.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the site handles data, for example if we change ad partners, we'll update this page and the effective date at the top before the change takes effect. For significant changes, we'll also note it clearly on this page.
